Environmental education of the youth
A destroyed environment is often a trigger of problems. Especially an extremely polluted environment is the reason why a peaceful coexistence is not possible. A clean and functioning environment is thus the basis for a non-violent society.
For a long-term and sustainable improvement of the Cameroonian environment not only the current generation needs to be more concerned with their waste handling, also the next generation needs to be educated on the topic of environmental protection. This is what we did by hosting a workshop for young people at the 11th of april in collaboration with ASOWOS and Zion House in a community in Biyem Assi.
In addition to the training in plastics, garbage as a disease trigger and recycling, the program also included a competition among the participants, who can carry the most plastic garbage in a short time. In just 15 minutes, so much garbage was already collected that the participants became aware of the urgency of the waste problem.
The aim of the workshop was to sensitize the participants to their own behavior regarding plastic and other waste and to make them rethink their behavior. Environmental protection is not the task of a few, but of each individual participant in our society. In particular, the behavior of the next generation will make a decisive contribution to stopping or, if negative, promoting environmental problems such as diseases and climate change. Accordingly important are workshops like these.
